Street Style: Ideas for Dreary Fall Days

Street Style: Ideas for Dreary Fall Days

Remember the beginning of fall, when everyone was in high spirits, excited for the change in season? The leaves, the layers, the boots! Everything was perfect.

But now the sky refuses to be blue, the sun is nowhere to be seen, and in response, all you want to do is crawl back under the covers until spring comes. Fret not, there is still beauty in the world and I’ve wandered the streets of New York City to bring it directly to you in your cozy bed to shake you out of your fall slump.

This week’s street style stars show us that sweatshirts, light-colored denim, and bold colors are the perfect cures for dreary fall weather.

Sweatshirts

The Problem: "I can barely get out of bed, why would I want to get dressed?"

The Solution: Throw on your most comfy sweatshirt and totally get away with it.

Layer it over a collared denim shirt and complete with the rest of your well-worn, all-black uniform.  (Photo of Maxine)

Pair it with a textured pencil skirt and comfy heels. Toss on a cuff if you’re feeling wild. (Photo of Emma)

Light Denim

The Problem: "Dark jeans seem to drag me down, just like the blustery wind and grey sky."

The Solution: Brighten up your look with the lightest denim in your closet.

Modernize your mom jeans with a cropped sweater and lots of leather.

Bold colors

The Problem: "Must everything be muted just because the sun is taking a day off?"

The Solution: Force color into a grey day by adding a pop (or more) of color to your outfit.

Go BOLD. That means orange. And really own it. (Photo of Freda)

Wear a fun, colorful print to add some spirit to your look. Clash if it feels appropriate.

Just a bright bag and scarf might be enough to do the trick, and perhaps a colorful geometric necklace for the office. (Photo of Ana)

Or make the color subtle, but full of impact. Deep hues and printed shoes bring these outfits up a notch. Take that fall!

More Street Style

The Problem: "There’s a problem? I love this weather!"

The Solution: If there’s no problem...

Just continue to wear your black and white uniform year-round -- with a few extra layers, of course.
